About

Origins of Gold Ribbon Studio

These costumes, known as fursuits, came about as part of the Furry fandom, a group of people who appreciate the concept of animals with human characteristics, which began in the mid-to-late 70s. This fandom sprouted from the popularity of anthropomorphic (human-like/sentient) animals in cartoons, and artists and fanatics alike gathered together at science fiction conventions to share art and characters. People began making representations of themselves as anthropomorphic animals, known as fursonas. This soon led to the conception of fursuits and the furry fandom. Our story begins in the year 2011 with a young artist inspired by the creativity of those around them. A visit to Otakon, a local anime convention in Baltimore, MD, brought forward their interest in costuming. That Halloween, the first Gold Ribbon Studio fursuit was born.Rebecca "Bex" Williams, also known by the pseudonym "lilypawpads", is that artist. Bex has loved animals as long as she has been around them, and as long as they could draw, they have been creating characters. Crafting and designing are their two favorite things, and have been even before finding out about the furry community. After they made their way into the Baltimore convention center that fateful day, which also happened to be their 14th birthday, their eyes were filled with visions of costumes far and wide. The one that caught their eye the most, however, was a set of Pokemon suits, which led them to a panel about how they were created. This panel sparked the passion that still burns to this day.

Terms of Service

By sending a quote, you agree that you have read these terms fully and thoroughly. Commissions are accepted via a form that will be present on our home page and posted on our social medias. A current price quote is required to apply for a commission. The quote form will be available up until the day before commissions close at 11:59 pm EST. Artistic liberty projects are welcome. Adult additions to suits are available upon request.Occasionally we will make pre-made costumes and designs. If the customer is purchasing a pre-made item from us, there will be no refunds or exchanges. For pre-made designs, standard payment terms apply.DISABILITY NOTICEGold Ribbon Studio is owned and run by a single individual, Bex. They have been diagnosed with chronic depression and ADHD. While these issues are typically well managed and medicated, delays due to unforeseen circumstances may happen, and commissions may take longer than predicted.Ordering and PreparationsWe do not work with individuals under the age of 18, as they are not legally able to enter a contract. We also do not accept work on behalf of a minor via a parent or legal guardian. We require a government-issued photo id (State ID, Driver’s License, Passport) as well as a picture of the customer holding it to confirm their identity.2-4 view character reference artwork (Front and back minimum, more appreciated) is required for most costumes, though if the character is simple enough or it can be based off of a photograph/species (such as a generic red fox), no artwork is required. If the customer sends us any art with nudity or sexual content to use as reference or otherwise, unless approved prior, we will refuse the project without further notice. Unless the customer is a previous client, we will not remake a suit exactly as we did in the past. Please take into consideration that our costumes are one of a kind and hand-made by a single person, so some minor imperfections may be present.Costumes made by us may have the unfortunate chance of ending up in the hands of bad individuals. Views expressed by anyone owning any of our products do not reflect the views of Gold Ribbon Studio.Copyrighted characters are able to be made on a case-by-case basis. Exact recreations of characters are only permitted if the copyright holder allows fan works for sale and/or profit. Fan characters based on copyrighted works that are not exact are permitted (Poke-sonas, Neo-sonas, MLP fan characters, etc.).Measurements are required for many parts. A measuring of around the brow is required for heads (Please specify if hair mass will increase this.). A hand tracing on a piece of paper mailed to us is required for hand paws. US Shoe size is required for feet paws. Measurement sheets will be given to be filled out for arm and leg sleeves. The customer is responsible for the accuracy of measurements. If an inaccurate measurement is provided and a costume part does not fit, the customer will be responsible for the cost of remaking said part.A duct tape dummy (DTD) is required for all full suits and bodysuits. No exceptions will be made to this rule. A tutorial on how to make a duct tape dummy is located here, courtesy of another fursuit maker:https://www.goldenmaw.com/howtodtdPlease follow this tutorial exactly! If the DTD is made incorrectly, we are not responsible for any sizing errors. The customer will be responsible for the cost of any alterations in this case.A professional relationship between business and client is expected to be maintained by both parties. We like to create a friendly atmosphere, but would like all client relationships to be business-centric and not break this boundary. If the customer is inappropriate with us, we reserve the right to refuse or discontinue service without refund. Please behave in an appropriate and professional manner. If you wouldn’t talk about it with your boss, please do not talk about it with us.If the customer, throughout the commission process, has been a difficult person to deal with, for example rude or inappropriate behavior, breaking professional boundaries, repeatedly asking for firm deadlines, oversharing about matters unrelated to the project, or behavior such as sexual harassment, Gold Ribbon Studio reserves the right to cancel the project without refund. We may revoke the right to a professional relationship in the future including but not limited to revocation of warranty, blacklisting from commissioning us, or, in extreme cases, listing your information in a public client blacklist shared between other fursuit makers.Payment and Refund PoliciesCurrently, we take payment via Square through their invoicing. PayPal will be used for international customers without access to Square services. Commission prices do not include shipping costs. The customer is responsible for shipping costs, which are calculated post-completion. Every price given is in US dollars.40% of the price quoted to the customer is required to be paid up front. This covers materials and supplies needed. This deposit is non-refundable. The commission will not be started until the full quoted amount has been remitted. Options are to pay everything in full at the beginning, or to pay the remaining 60% of the price in even increments (will be determined based on the customer’s quote) for up to 3 additional months. Payment delays will result in the commission being delayed, or canceled without refund if a payment is later than 30 days.If the customer chooses to cancel the commission before we have made progress, they will receive back everything paid outside of the original 40% non-refundable deposit. If one wishes to receive a full refund, they must sell their slot directly to another, or via TheDealersDen or a similar furry community run shop/auction site. Details of this will be worked out privately on a case-by-case basis per customer. Any extra money past the original quoted commission price obtained via this manner will be owed back to Gold Ribbon Studio. If the customer chooses to cancel the commission after we have started their suit, they give us permission to modify it to our liking and either keep it for ourselves or sell it, and the customer is refunded what we can give back to the customer of the remaining 60% depending on the progress we have made. For example, if we are halfway finished, only 30% will be returned. After the fursuit is completed, no refunds will be given, and the customer must sell the suit on their own.It is encouraged that all people interested in commissioning us have a consistent income, and not be living in a financially unstable situation. Stability in life is more important than an animal costume at the end of the day.Deadlines and ProgressWe do NOT accept commissions restricted by a deadline. There are no exceptions to the deadline rule, and no way to pay a rush fee to prioritize the project. We will give a rough estimate, however this is not a guaranteed delivery date and is subject to delays. Delays may include life events, illness, or running out of materials, to name a few. Customers will be informed of any delays and given updated estimate dates. General completion time post final payment can be up to 6-12 months. We will periodically send work in progress (WIP) images to the customer during the process of making the suit, so if there is an error, please inform us. We will wait for approval to continue when sending patterning-stage WIP images. If the customer does not point out anything wrong with a project in the early stages such as patterning, the customer will be responsible for paying for the alterations if they would like it fixed. After every day we work on a suit, WIP images will be posted on our social media, so please tell us if we should keep the commission's WIP images private. If the customer is curious about the progress of their commission, please do not hesitate to ask; we will happily answer. But please, only ask this if we have not been heard from on social media or personally. Constant or daily questions about commission progress may lead to inquiries being ignored.Shipping, Warranty, and RepairsShipping costs are the responsibility of the customer. All shipments will be sent with USPS or UPS, depending on the cost. If something needs to be rush-shipped, the cost will increase. Please be aware that these suits are very large and shipping can be upwards of $50 in some cases. International shipping and customs fees are likely to be upwards of $150, so please do not be alarmed and be prepared to pay massive shipping prices if the customer is based outside of the USA. Customs fees are the responsibility of the customer.Every suit comes with a 6 month warranty. The warranty begins on the day the customer receives the fursuit in the mail. If the item is damaged, or easily tears/falls apart, it will be repaired free of charge. The customer will cover shipping to us, and we will cover shipping back to the customer. If the customer is based outside of the USA, then we will not cover any shipping.Incorrect measurements or unclear reference sheets can create issues, and anything caused by this is not our fault, and will need to be paid for by the customer. Damage associated with normal wear and tear, abuse, or inadequate care is not covered. If the customer is not sure if something is covered, just ask us. Any modifications to the suit not done by us will immediately void the warranty and all repairs will need to be paid for. Please clean the suit (if it has been worn) before sending it back to us for repairs, or else the customer will be charged a $100 washing fee. After the customer’s warranty is up, they may still contact us for repairs. Our rate for repairs is $50 per hour. We can fully refurbish suits we have made in the past. Details regarding refurbishment projects are discussed on a case-by-case basis.
